About Stevie Fichtenmayer, LCSW

For the last decade, I’ve worked with adults navigating trauma, identity exploration, and the daily overwhelm that can come with living in a complex world. I’ve supported survivors of trauma, people in the midst of identity transitions, and those trying to find their footing during life’s most challenging seasons.

My approach blends clinical expertise with lived experience. I specialize in trauma therapy, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and neurodivergent support — offering honesty, compassion, and, when needed, a good dose of humor. I believe healing begins when we are truly seen and valued, not in spite of who we are, but because of it.

As a queer, polyamorous, neurodivergent, Indigenous Jewish clinician and parent, I bring my full self to the therapy room. My style is collaborative, affirming, and deeply human, grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience. Whether you’re seeking growth, reflection, or simply someone who “gets it,” I’m here to walk alongside you toward the life you want.

About Catalyst Counseling and Mental Health

Catalyst Counseling & Mental Health was founded on a simple mission: care without judgment, change without limits.

After years of working in mental health systems that often prioritized productivity over people, I knew I wanted to create something different — a therapy space that feels honest, responsive, affirming, and deeply human. Too often, clients have to explain, justify, or filter their truths just to access care. Here, you can show up fully — no code-switching, no shrinking, no masks.

This practice is rooted in both lived experience and clinical expertise. I understand the exhaustion of navigating a world that wasn’t built for every mind or body, and I believe lasting healing happens in spaces where people feel safe, understood, and empowered.

Catalyst is more than a business — it’s a reclamation of what mental health care can be. It’s flexible, relational, and community-rooted. It’s a place for transformation, not just symptom management. Whether you’re here for therapy, clinical supervision, or professional connection, my hope is that you find something here that feels like a breath of fresh air and a reminder that you don’t have to do this alone.

My Experience and Qualifications

I bring 10 years of professional experience in the mental health field, blending evidence-based practices with an affirming, human-first approach.

  • I received my Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2013. While there, I completed practicum hours at a children’s emergency shelter and working in the field with Children’s Division.

  • I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Missouri (#2018009776) with over 4,000 hours of supervised clinical work. My professional experience has extended to roles in community mental health centers, behavioral health hospitals, school-based programs, residential facilities, and group practices.

  • My training has focused on trauma recovery and informed care, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, neurodivergence, and identity exploration. I have experience working with mood disorders, eating disorders, PTSD, personality disorders and those with ADHD.

I have been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through EMDR Consulting, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches.

  • As a licensed clinician I continue to engage in educations and trainings to provide high quality evidence-based practices and follow best ethical and recommended approaches. I actively seek advanced training in LGBTQIA+ care, support strategies for neurodivergent clients, trauma-informed practices, and culturally informed and competent approaches in therapy.

Whether we’re processing past trauma, navigating current stressors, or building skills for the future, my goal is to provide a space where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered.

What to Expect When Working With Me

From our very first session, we’ll get clear on what matters most to you and create a pace that feels safe and sustainable. I believe therapy should meet you where you are — not force you into a one-size-fits-all plan. Sometimes that means processing painful experiences, other times it’s building practical skills, exploring identity, or simply having a space where you can exhale and feel heard. Whether you thrive with structure or prefer a more open, flowing conversation, our work will be shaped around what helps you feel supported, understood, and empowered.

Who I Work With

I provide individual therapy for adults across Missouri through secure online sessions, making care accessible no matter where you are in the state. My clients include trauma survivors, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent adults, and anyone seeking a more affirming and personalized therapy experience.
